The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was nominated to facilitate the implementation of the Year along with Governments, relevant organizations, non-governmental organizations and all other relevant stakeholders. IYP 2016 aims to raise public awareness of the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production for food safety and nutrition. This Year will create a unique opportunity to promote links along the food chain in a way that will make better use of pulse-based proteins, other legumes production, better use of crop rotations, and addressing the challenges faced in the pulse trade.
